BBC DJ Danny Stubbs has died aged 40 following a year-long battle with a rare cancer. The radio star was diagnosed with stage four oesophageal adenocarcinoma in August 2023. The cancer was inoperable and tragically spread to his lymph nodes and spine.
Announcing the news of his death on Wednesday, Danny’s wife Danielle, 33, said in a statement: “I know he was fighting to be with me. The last few months have been incredibly hard, but he was so strong.
“It’s not fair, but life went this way. It’s hard to even think about the future, because it’s not the life that we imagined. I just want to keep making him proud.”
“My heart breaks for everyone that loved him too, his daughter Leah, both our families and all his friends. Danny was the most beautiful person inside and out. He had a sparkle in his eyes and a smile that would light up a room.
“I’m unbelievably proud of all he achieved, and I would like to thank everyone that has supported Danny’s music throughout the years, his legacy will live on forever. I would also like to thank all those loved ones who supported us throughout the last 12 months and for all the comforting words of condolence since Danny’s passing,” Danielle added to StokeonTrentLive.
Danny and Danielle met in 2019 and became engaged shortly after his diagnosis. They planned their wedding in just 12 weeks and were married in November 2023.
He has a daughter named Leah, 19, from a previous relationship.
The music producer began his career DJing in clubs in the early 2000s. His work then took him around the world with sets at Ministry of Sound and Gatecrasher and his tracks were featured on BBC radio.
He has remixed for U2 and Ariana Grande and worked with record producer Paul Oakenfold.
Prior to his diagnosis, the only symptoms Danny experienced were acid reflux, difficulty swallowing and hiccoughing.
He underwent palliative chemotherapy and Danielle says he remained active after his diagnosis, including running half marathons, climbing mountains, skiing and performing.
His funeral will be held in Crewe. Cheshire, on Thursday (September 19).
