SINGAPORE – Eleven flights from Singapore to China were affected after all flights were cancelled at Shanghai’s two main airports due to Typhoon Bebinca.
In response to queries from The Straits Times, Changi Airport Group (CAG) said the affected flights were scheduled for Sept 15 and 16.
Some of the affected departures from Singapore include China Eastern Airlines’ MU898 to Hangzhou, MU6018, MU568 and MU566 to Shanghai, Air China’s CA826 to Shanghai, Singapore Airlines’ SQ836 to Shanghai and Spring Airlines’ 9C8550 to Shanghai. Juneyao Airlines’ HO1606 to Shanghai was also retimed from 10.55pm to 7.20am on Sept 16.
Three flights to Shanghai scheduled for Sept 16 – China Eastern Airlines’ MU544, Singapore Airlines’ SQ826 and Spring Airlines’ 9C8550 – were also cancelled.
It is understood that affected airlines have informed their passengers on alternative arrangements, a spokesperson from CAG said.
In an advisory on SIA’s website, the airline announced that three flights will be cancelled:
- SQ825 departing Shanghai for Singapore on Sept 16 at 12.35am
- SQ826 departing Singapore for Shanghai on Sept 16 at 1.15am
- SQ827 departing Shanghai for Singapore on Sept 16 at 8.05am
Typhoon Bebinca, which could be the strongest tropical cyclone to hit the Chinese city since 1949, has led to transport disruptions, with Shanghai’s Pudong and Hongqiao airports cancelling all flights as at 8pm local time.
Passenger ferry operations have also been suspended, with plans made for passenger trains on several routes to be suspended from Sept 15 to Sept 16.
The typhoon is expected to make landfall between Taizhou in Zhejiang Province and Qidong in Jiangsu Province from Sept 15 night to Sept 16 morning, bringing heavy rains, reported Xinhua.
